Thanks Ashley and devs, and for the fix on Pitch Me. Becoming one of my favorite plugs.

pw69,

If you are using any of the available public downloads, Basspeg is fried and nothing will get it working in the registered suite. Don't know how to remove the authorization on Windows, but the demo mode works without crashing.

This said, the guys are recompiling the suite with a solid fix for Basspeg. The beta went out and tested stable, and it is a good addition. My understanding is that Pitch Me is being looked at as well.

Good things around the corner for sure.

Tested Basspeg in Reaper and Sonar win XP and Reaper 64 bit in win 10. Basspeg fix works solid in these environments.

Yes, and can add some hi end sparkle as well with the tone switches. Sounds great with the retro compressor before and the new gate to manage noise swell.

Thanks Ashley and devs,

Test version of Basspeg is rock solid in Reaper. Can almost hear the speakers starting to flap in the old Ampeg cabinet.

As much as I hate to admit anything working better in a Mac environment, seems like the Mac users are having no problem. For us windows diehards, need to find out what crashes the plug in the authorization process. May be harder to find out what is causing Pitch Me to go south, but needs to be addressed as well to get it stable.

Verified in Reaper that the demo mode works, but not the authorized version.

Strange, but possibly useful info for the devs.

Found an email address for Nick and sent the crash logs for Basspeg.

Hope it was the right Nick and that he is still with you. Otherwise, someone else got a weird email.

Noisy process, but will force a Pitch Me crash and send those logs as well.

Ashley,

I have the mini dump files but have had no luck using the online contact method. Unexpected errors returned over a couple weeks trying to use the online form.

Is there an email that can take attachments that I can send the crash logs to?

Thanks,
John

Ashley,

Will get the logs together and submit.

Realize almost how much work this entails and how life gets in the way. Know you guys are doing your best to fix the finest plugin suite available on this planet.

Best,
John

Well, that was quick.

Uninstalled everything. Cleaned the Reaper blacklist. Reinstalled the 3.3.1 suite. Started Reaper and still crashed on Basspeg.

The other plugs scan successfully although I suspect that Pitch Me is a bit on the fragile edge. Crash logs were created if they will help.

Thanks for your reply Ashley.

I did a blacklist cleanup in Reaper but the crash remains with Basspeg. I didn't however do an uninstall of all plugs before cleaning the blacklist. Only deleted the Basspeg dll and cleaned the Reaper ini file imposing the quarantine, which I thought would be enough.

Will do a complete uninstall of the suite, clean the ini entry, reinstall 3.3.1 and see if that works.

Report back coming.

Unfortunately Basspeg still crashing Reaper even with 3.3.1.

Haven't tried Pitch Me yet but noted the same dll size so likely not fixed yet either.

Thanks guys,

For Reaper, open the reaper-vstplugins.ini file. Will be in different places depending on OS, but search for the file.

Open with notepad or text editor. Basspeg will be one of the last entries. To clear the blacklist, delete the whole Basspeg line and save the file.

Install the new revidions and open Reaper. If Basspeg fixed, it will now work.

Cheers,
John

cme,

No suggestions since us lay people can't fix. It is nothing you are doing wrong, and probably nothing you can do to get the offending plugs to work. Reporting the problem like you have done is the critical duty of the end user to the collective, user and developer.

I have a lot of faith in this set of tools and also that the devs are listening, and that a fix is soon to come.

Wanted to add again the fragile performance of Pitch Me, which does not all the time crash outright, and is recognized by Reaper as a legitimate vst.

Another older thread somewhere on this forum reported a different plug as causing a loud rapid popping that red-lined everything and had to be shut down to restart. This is the exact symptom I'm experiencing with Pitch Me if the knobs are moved too fast. Probably harder to troubleshoot since the failure is intermittent. Pitch Me needs some love as well as Basspeg

Don't have a Mac, but got a note that the Mac installer works with all plugs, no problems.

Windows problems only. Focus for the devs needs to be on fixing Basspeg and Pitch Me. Only wish I could code and help out.

Thank you Ali.

There is still the issue with Pitch Me. This plug registered fine in Reaper, but the state is very fragile. Moving the knobs too quickly creates a loud sustained crash. It does work however in Reaper with care.

It was reported earlier on the forum that Pitch Me was crashing other DAWs as well.

Best,
John

Santo, you are welcome.

Thought that it might be a clear cache and rescan issue. Once failed, the plug should be blacklisted and not cause a subsequent crash.

This gets off topic a bit, but wanted to mention about the vst ini file for Reaper users. Knowing how to use this remote file can save a lot of grief.

Verified that all the P&M plugs are safe except Basspeg. Then the issue about the fragile state of Pitch Me, which registers okay but can crash the program after the fact.

The Reaper vst ini file contains the log of all successful and all failed vst/vsti load attempts. Failed plugs are not given a name and remain blacklisted. If you delete just the line for the failed plug, you can restart Reaper and only retry the failed plug, and not have to do a complete breakdown and rescan everything.

Almost like a registry cleaning, it is a good idea to go thru this file every now and then. Delete off all entries that don't have a name after the number sequence. Save the file and rescan, for a couple reasons.

Blacklisted plugins may have been dumped for some momentary glitch never to see the digital light of day again. Deleting the entry will give a new scan on restart and the plug might work. (Basspeg did not)

Sometimes a vst will register but with a name not remotely related to the dll file name. If you have a bunch of plugs, hard to tell if it was blacklisted or named something you would never look for. Searching the file for the dll name will show if the plug is blacklisted or if abc.dll is really registered as xyz. Note you can also change the name of the plug in this file and it will show up the way you want it to.

@ruckus, hope the devs get a fix in the works. Incredible suite of tools

Just a second to this. Have used the P&M distortion boxes for a long time, and they are up there with anything for any price. Lack of a thousand knobs understates the power of these plugs, and maybe why P&M is not recognized to the level deserved.

Guitar Rig, Scuffham, Amplitube, Revalver, many others. P&M my go to stomps when overdrive is needed.

Ouch...

Now getting Pitch Me crash in Reaper 5.311. Up to now, only Basspeg was not working.

Disclaimer is I'm still using win XP and just updated Reaper. Who knows. Fleeting message too quick to catch about the 2005 C++ involvement. Happened only once (error message), now it just crashes if the knobs are moved.

Starting a new project allows Pitch Me to function, so something fragile bouncing up against other third party plugs probably.

Santo,

Can't fix the plug, but uninstall the suite, or just the dll for Basspeg. Probably fresh install after uninstall is best.

Next, find the reaper-vstplugins.ini file. Look in the Users folder for your user name. Then go to the Appdata\roaming folder, then the Reaper folder. Open the ini file with notepad. Basspeg will be one of the last line entries. Delete the line after deleting the plugin and then save the file.

Restart Reaper and everything should work. Then if you want, reinstall the P&M suite with Basspeg unchecked. Note that failed plugs in the ini file have a name of the dll = then some numbers. The line does not have a comma followed by the plugin name. Successfully registered plugs have the dll name, = , bunch of numbers, a comma, and the plugin name. Only strange thing is that this method of failing plugs should have protected Reaper from crashing on restart.

Hope this helps,

John

Was trying to send a bug report but the normal channel failed. Looks like others are ahead of me anyway.

Confirming the failure of Basspeg in Reaper ver 5.x

This said, really welcome the chorus and pitch controls, and above all, the entry of a noise gate in the suite. Makes the environment nearly complete.
