Recording, recording question Options

I am don't have any experience at computor recording, but here is what I want to do. I want to record myself as a learning tool. I want to record myself alone and playing along with music. I have some play-along music that I would like to record myself playing too. Also, it would be nice if I could change the tempo of the play-along song, so I could practice these songs at different tempos.
I am not looking to do anything fancy. Just a learning tool.

I have window 98 se pentium III 128 RAM

Freeware would be good


Any help would be appreciated
