Plugivery Forums _ GRM Tools _ User Feedback: Evolution

Posted by: DontCrack Mar 25 2011, 12:14 PM

Describing what "EVOLUTION" really does is pretty tough ! We therefore suggest you http://store.dontcrack.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=70&products_id=799 (no iLok or authorization required) and experiment for yourself.

EVOLUTION might simply change the way Sound Designers, Engineers, Musicians or composers will process audio in the future !!!

Please post your feedback and let us know how you got the best out of these new unconventional Audio Plug-Ins.

Have fun !

Evolution is indeed fantastic, as is the 'intro' deal.

Also wanted to quickly mention the 'Don't Crack' purchase process was as painless as it gets...once purchased I immediately was set to a page that gave me a serial number/iLok redeem code, pasted it in at iLok and had my plug-ins authorized immediately upon install (be sure and do iLok redeem/dongle load first before using installer).

The new 'Standalone' format with built-in player (all GRM) is very cool. I have missed my other GRM's and the new ones (Evolution) are REALLY worth checking out.

Thanks Don't Crack for a FANTASTIC deal (better than upgrade path for my two former packages!) and smooth purchase path ;-)

I have experienced a VERY occasional 'glitch' with the standalones, would be interested if anyone else does also.

Every GREAT once in awhile, I will get a very short burst of completely dry signal (mix 0%) from at least two of the Evolution bundle. At first I thought it was from clicking in Finder or maybe even OSX 'Quicklook' interfering but I have had it happen just doing nothing. Mind you, this might not happen for a half hour or so of continuous playing around but would like to know if it happens to anyone else before making a 'official' report to INA.

Loving 'Fusion', definitely 'next gen' stuff ;-)

Hmm, I do not believe 'Agitation' is working in Logic during a 'real time' bounce (at least in 'Fusion' so far). Anyone else?

You are correct.
In fact I can't get Agitation working on ANY of the GRM plugins in Logic for Realtime or Offline Bounces. This needs to be sorted pronto.

I'm also getting very unpredictable Agitation results when bouncing down numerous GRMs in Ableton Live (Mac). Basically they don't sound anything like they do when working on them in realtime within Live, which can sound great. The bounces also sometimes have some weird glitchy artefacts. Not nice.

Posted by: Loopy C Mar 26 2011, 11:54 PM

Yeah, I spent the evening 'bouncing' by running Logic into Audio Hijack Pro lol!

'Agitation' not working AND occasional audio drop-outs in Fusion (when using 'Agitator'?) are a problem, I am sending reports to:

HI,

The GRM Tools developer is on vacation for this week but I'm sure he will work on these bugs really soon.
We will post the fix asap.

Best,

In Logic 9.1.3 neither offline, nor realtime bounce works with the "Evolution" P.I

I replied elsewhere to this, it is working in 9.1.3 here (10.5.8/Intel Mac Pro)...see my full reply in your dedicated post.

Not knowing what system/OS you have (you should include that info when reporting bugs if you can) I will try it in 9.1.3/10.6.7 next chance I get ;-)

Can someone tell me if the sample button has a function in periodic mode?

ditto on Agitation not working in Ableton... (Mac 10.6.7/Live 8.2.2)

I am old/ex GRM Tools user, and once had the Classic RTAS and used them years ago when I was with Pro Tools. I really loved them and used them on a regular basis. But for some reasons I decided to let go and drop Pro Tools, and moved to Ableton Live for production/creativity reasons. When I heard about GRM Tools 3 with the ilok dongle, I was at first hesitant and not sure if I still wanted to screw around with that ilok thing. So I decided to give the demo suite (Spectral, Classic and Evolution) a try wow, I really liked them! So I bought the whole suite with the special intro price and now all I can say is that I am very happy I did before april 17!!! Im re-discovering the GRM Tools and the new Evolution bundle is simply breath taking in term of endless sonic possibilities. I really think it's a huge sonic monster that opens a vast world of audio exploration. I have to admit that the ilok processing, although I'm not a fan of it (the main reason why I was so hesitant) was buttery and very very easy, it took me only a few minutes to get my GRM licence and be able to run them all in my DAW. Very straight forward, so I'm really glad. Still, I would prefer having a non-ilok version in the future to free my usb ports (I have a Macbook with limited ports) but for now, I'm happy to be back with the GRM Tools. Yes let's be honest they are expensive, BUT I really think they worth every penny.

Thanks!

Hey Neon,

That is one really cool testimonial !

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm using the new GRM Tools 3.

I'm sure others will want to try these hot new plug-ins and perhaps purchase them before our attractive http://store.dontcrack.com/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=70&products_id=800 ends which is this Sunday, April 17.

Kind Regards - Peter

I bought the big GRM bundle today as I had been working with the demos over the last 2 days and they gradually convinced me to dive into GRM tools. At first I thought - well what's so hot about Evolution, then today I tried it on some parts of a current composition played by horns and trombones and morphing parts of the music into each other at different speeds and transpositions, changing around the level of puritiy and so on I was fascinated by the results. I won't post the brass music but here are some experiments I did today using various GRM tools in various combinations on sounds made with Reaktor, Alchemy and also field recordings. A lot to explore during the next weeks and months, together with Metasynth and crusherX these tools will open new territories for my sounddesign...

I had a feeling you might find them useful Simon ;-) Glad they got the demo issues resolved for everyone to do a 'proper' demo, should be quite irresistible at this point smile.gif I am in a similar position, 'Evolution' just keeps blowing my mind with every use!

Can't wait to check out what you have done but am taking a audio break today so look forward to heading overto your demo links tomorrow ;-)

btw Simon, have you experienced either a brief audio drop out (plug-in) or a short burst of dry signal (in standalone) around every 20 minutes of continuous use, especially with 'Evolution'? Support is aware of my experience and suggested it might be an iLock issue and were investigating but have not seem anyone else report it...was curious since I believe we have generically similar set-ups.\?

Hi Chris,
Yea, I've had several Evolution dropouts today during realtime bouncing, it always happened at different spots within a track and it was not a CPU issue as the CPU on my Mac Pro 8-core was hardly moving.
I find the plugs a bit querky and not so well betatested to be honest, as posted in the Logic thread here on DontCrack there are several problems concerning auomation as well. For a bundle that price one should expect a bit more. Soundwise they are great and inspiring though...

Yes, hopefully they will be able to address these soon, my impression based on response thus far and demo revamp is that fixes will be forthcoming within reason, I certainly look forward to audio stability and agitator bouncing (agitator+Fusion is really quite incredible).

Listened to all your testing/demos up to this one yesterday, inspiring as always Simon...thanks for posting and will check out new one a little later (knee deep in some Wadada Leo Smith at the moment ;-))
