Im user number 3947. That's Eagl in h4Xorz l33t speak no? egat? egad blimey

Who the hell are viewing these threads? Are there a bunch Russian hackers just spamming pr0ns or what? (Russians stole my job BTW. They are big on Delphi over there. Thinking about moving there to get my job back) Anyone wanna sponsor me? I can move immediately. 12 years of Delphi development experience. Actually visited St. Petersburg once when it was called Lenningrad. Visa-free hand-held tour so I didn't get to see much. I love Finland, dry humor fits me perfectly. Sweden was OK once you got out of the city. Buncha quasi-americans in Stockholm. Denmark and Norway were awesome. Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Portugal were all wicked cool as well. I need to visit again. More I wanna see.

Guess I'm Scandinavian at heart. Must be why I like A Split Second so much. I covered Scandinavian Belly Dance years ago. Might do that again.

As always, nice chatting with ya.

Just my .02, but I think it's because the "free" section is down. And that funny smell. Smells like teen spit. Copenhagen...maybe Skoal. I left the door open, she came inside, 9 months later, bought a breast pump.

Rah Rah! Hey, cloudy with a chance of blueballs.

I finished my studio yesterday. I purchase my software/hardware Saturday. Still haven't decided on ProTools or Logic. Would prefer to stay with Cubase, but oh well.

So tell me...y there are so many views, and so few posts. Seems to me that this would be a great place to talk about the free virtual instruments/effects and software out there for us poor people. Does everyone prefer gearslutz? Somewhere else?

Still down. At least the pay section is working in the event I hit the lottery or something.

Got the "Trainspotting" soundtrack on cassette for $0.49 at the Goodwill today.

In the past 18+ years that I've been surfing the internet and God knows how many years before on BBSs, I've installed virus protection exactly twice. Both were because I was doing something naughty and both times the virus protection was essentially worthless. You may get away with 999 out of 1,000, but eventually you will get bit.

Meaning? Stay away from warez, porn & pie-in-the-sky Nigerian/E-bay scams and your computer will be as safe as a baby in a bullet-proof crib locked in a Fort Knox vault. Vampires can only come in if you invite them.

Regardless of the arguments as to the exact level, virus protection, firewall or malware scanner is going to slow your computer down to some degree at some point. The short simple being computers are still dumb, they’re just a little faster at being dumb than they were 10 years ago. You throw more/faster processors at a problem to do the same thing. That being said, you simply can’t have it both ways.

It’s a simple choice of slow and dirty or fast and clean.

JMO...your online experience may vary. GL

Three years late, but what the hell. Three year old thread is still on the front page so it appears this isn't exactly a hotbed.

You have to load samples into each slot individually if I remember correctly. There should be a load/open button, just click it and select a wav file. Can't remember if it loads other formats but pretty sure it does wavs.

QUOTE (patience @ Jan 24 2010, 11:48 PM) *
Hello,
Haiti earthquake is a sign of 2012 destruction? If this true then what can we do?

Lessee....marketing seems to be the option with the best result for the least amount of people. Let's go with that!

Kids. It’s all about the kids. We can make movies, music, video games, breakfast cereal, die cast cars, and dolls for the kids.

Movies: A movie or three have already made but you can probably get a dozen or so out a cataclysm of this magnitude prior to the event itself, and another God knows how many post-non-cataclysm-oops-sorry, after the event.

Music: The industry is defacto taphonomy...in addition, predatory and cannibalistic. This is really a no-brainer. Within the next 12 to 18 months, I expect that the music industry will manufacture a crescendo ending in a fortissimo that will make Ligeti’s Devil’s Staircase sound like a church mouse fart. I expect music and lyrics so dark it will make Ian Curtis’ lyrics look as if he were writing for Barney the Dinosaur. Kids are going to straight from their Buster Browns and Grranimals to self-mutilation and slit wrists...down the road slit wrists...not across the street. No dark clothes, no pasty skin, no ridiculous amounts of makeup and pink hair, no ankle, elbow or asscheek piercings…straight to the deep six. A mere 30 seconds of the latest "Dead Slutz Dance" track will have the most centered of our youth begging for air-compressor IVs.

Video Games: Eh, this turd sank a long time ago. It’ll pretty much stay the same…only with better graphics, blood spatter, and rag-doll physics.

Breakfast Cereal: THE MILK TURNS TO BLOOD!!!! OH MY GOD THE PHAROHS HAVE RETURNED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Die cast Cars: This is way out in left field and no one would probably ever go for this, but it would be good for some corporate crossover, book-movie-marketing-toys thing if so. I’m thinking like a rogue comet zooms by Earth and emits like this green fog…eh…call it Rhea-m…that settles on the planet. It contains like this micro-creatures that are super intelligent and they make all mechanized things go on a homicidal rampage! The beauty being, vehicles such as cars, trucks, and aircraft are mobile, so we can get loads of die-cast toys with bloody fangs, goblin faces and scary stuff like that. Understand, I’m just spitballing here and may be out on a cocaine induced limb, but the possibilities are limitless when you think about it!

Dolls: Splatz. We pitch this to the same company that makes the Bratz line as a spin-off. They’ve gotten older, uglier, fatter, pumped out a few kids, smoke, drink, prescription painkillers, Xanax, ass the size of a bathtub (even tho it really isn’t…just not as firm as it was at 13) husband is banging everyone but you because your self-esteem has made you uglier than time could ever dream. GOOD THING YOU LIVE ON THE 56TH FLOOR!!! HAHA!!! SPLAT!!! Your dolly emits blood, urine, fecal and brain matter all over mom’s clean kitchen floor. But don’t worry kids! You can buy refill packs, sold separately at modestly inflated prices, and drop that throbbing lump of despair off mommy’s kitchen table again and again the fun never ends!
And for the adults…well…watching your kids spiral into oblivion as a result of your own over-indulgent and misguided attempts at surrogate parenting via third party products so that you may maintain your high school kegger knock-up the prom queen lifestyle well into your 50’s…now that’s entertainment corporate Earth couldn’t manufacture if they tried. Oh wait…woah…Déjà vu!

QUOTE (delta90h @ Jan 6 2010, 07:31 AM) *
n Israel it is 2900 NIS (about 770 US$)
In USA it Around 450 US$.
Why it vary so much?
And Did the companies knows it
That Israel official retailer of Steinberg charges 350 US$!!!!!!(almost TWICE!!!) more for the same product.
It is nothing to do TWICE of retail price it is not a taxes it is an speculative price.

$499 is pretty much the going retail rate everywhere in the US. I've not seen it for cheaper nor more expensive since it's release. (Cubase 5 that is) Studio is $299.

What really bothers me is the fact that I was duped into buying Cubase SE v1.07 for $149 a little over 3 years ago from Guitar Center when I was very first getting into digital recording, and Steinberg will not give me an upgrade credit for that purchase. I emailed them recently and explained what happened to me, and asked if they give me an upgrade credit the same as an SX user, which I believe is the lowest at $100. They didn't even respond to my email. I also own a VSL 2020, V-Stack, The Grand, LM-4 and 3 Kit Connection packs that I purchased at the same time as Cubase, mentioned that I've become kinof a Steinberg guy, but they snubbed me. blink.gif

Now when I say I was duped, understand that it was in fact a great tool to learn with in the beginning, and it can be used to do some of the things I need to do. I simply jumped into something without researching it properly. However had I known then what I know now, I would have purchased the full Cubase 3 or 4, whatever was out at the time as I outgrew it really really fast. Now that I'm a bit iffy about Steinberg, I probably would have gone ProTools or jumped ship completely and gone to Logic. Regardless, what happened happened, and here I am. rolleyes.gif Sour grapes....I digress.

I recently built a small studio to give this a serious go, but I just can't pull myself to use Cubase anymore even though I know it well and like it. Have been trying out Reaper, but tho I'd like to help out the small guy, it has some stability problems. I really like Live, Reason and Sonar, but I'm seriously thinking about swinging over to ProTools like everyone else. I need a new A/D interface anyway, and as bad as I want the Cubase 5 & CC121 & MR816CSX, it looks as if I'm going to wind up with either a Tascam FW-1884 and Live & Reason, or Digi 003-Pro Tools, with a very outside chance at a Mac and Logic Studio.

Sorry for the long rant, but as important as price is to us small guys, a manufacturer in the music business' understanding of its userbase from top to bottom is even more important in my humble opinion. I'm not paying for simply a license regardless of what the EULA says. My use of a particular tool like Cubase may get clients in the door, it may not, depending on their needs and/or knowledge/skill level. But my belief in, and mastery of the tools opens marketing doors that may have otherwise been closed when my clients get it in their heads that they can do what I do with their own tools. The manufacturer has vested interest in making sure I can do that regardless of skill or income level. That can’t happen without dialog, and I have to ask myself why I would continue a one-sided love affair with a manufacturer that can’t even take the time to say “no” when there are so many more than capable alternatives.
Flame on. smile.gif
