Greetings,

Is there a way to create an Aggregate Device in OS X with Jack Trip? I have setup a sweet routing between Pro Tools and Mixbus where I send my 8 stereo auxiliary tracks out from PT to Mixbus, and I want to have the stereo master output of Mixbus return into a audio track in Pro Tools to record the final mixdown. All routing works great, except the very last step of printing the mix in Pro Tools. The snag is, Jack doesn't show up as an audio device that I can add to an "Aggregate Device". Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers, Dan

Hello Dan,

This is Tim from Harrison. I created the Pro Tools routing video.

You don't need to set up an Aggregate Device to take advantage of this feature. JackRouter is simply a "virtual patchbay" that helps you to interface between programs. When we select JackRouter as a playback device for Pro Tools, we are telling Jack that we want to use Pro Tools in tandem with other software. This is only possible in PT 9.0 and later thanks to CoreAudio compatibility.

To bring the audio back in to Pro Tools, you could select a virtual out that sends audio back to Pro Tools as the output for the Master Out in Mixbus. My recommendation would be to reserve the last two virtual channels in Jack for this operation.

Most of our users that use Pro Tools and Mixbus together this way actually print their mixes within Mixbus. You can do so by creating a track, and then routing the Master Out of Mixbus into it.

Feel free to respond here, or write to our main support channel at mixbus@harrisonconsoles.com if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Tim Hall
