Plugivery Forums _ Plug & Mix _ The Name...its Just Got To Go

Posted by: SmeeNZ Nov 3 2011, 04:57 AM

Is there any chance you can rename these pluggins. I love them and all, but I feel like a criminal every time I load one - I get Dont Crack flash on the splash screen. I opened a project the other day that had about 10 DC pluggins on it, my client thought I had cracked software on my machine, was a little embarrassing.

Hi SmeeNZ,

Sorry for the late reply, totally overloaded here since back to school period.

Thanks for the kind words and the instructive comment. Others mentioned that as well...

Following-up with that, I can announce that we are going to change the brand name. DC plug-ins might become "Plug&Mix" plug-ins or P&M.

That is not an easy process as the name is deeply involved in the plug-ins code but we are working on it... We already have the domain name and working on the new site and logos. Here's a first draft of the logo that shows we're on the case.

http://www.plugandmix.com/

The new brand might be included in the next upgrade that should be ready in the next 2 weeks...

I'll keep you posted on the board asap.

Kind Regards - Peter

ummmm...I would like to chime in. I really don't mind the name being "Don't Crack" at least it has some commercial appeal being that it is a logo and you have established a reputation to go with that logo. I hate to say it but the font on the new mock up looks cheap and generic. Perhaps the initials would look better, the block lettering in your current logo looks more appealing and professional (with the stylized [K] ). The new design looks like something I could do(which is not good). I think its great that you are listening to your customers but I think the plugs are more important than using resources on the name. My 2 cents. And by the way, I love the plugs so far! I also think that time spent on name changes are.counterproductive. If need be just use the initials "DC" and let the words they stand for become enigmatic. That way all you need to do is change the graphics and not worry about registry issues; in the registry, references to "Dontcrack" can remain unchanged. Keep focused on the sound and making great plugs. My two cents.

Dear friends,

We are working on new plug-ins but most of our devs are either working on holiday promotions or OFF for winter break. New plugs will therefore be available early Q1 2012...

Meanwhile, as announced earlier, we decided to change the name of our plug-ins and are actually finalizing an attractive new site where users will find more information and useful resources to keep our plug-ins up to date.

The http://www.plugandmix.com/ ! Any comments ?

At last, as we did more than well at launch-out and received tones of requests from users, asking if we could make our http://store.dontcrack.com/index.php?manufacturers_id=72 available at at $299 as a Xmas offer. Well we simply did it and are considering keeping that MAP price in 2012...

We hope all of that will keep the high interest all of you showed for our clean and simple audio plug-ins. We are monitoring your requests and are working on hot new plug-ins that we already know you will love using ;-)

Looking forward to your feedback.

Happy holidays folks !

Cheers - Peter

Hi Peter - wow, now thats what I call customer service! I love products where the devs really listen to their users.

In my humble opinion a software brand should not only sound and perform well, but look beautiful with a brand name that inspires your piers to nod in approval of your wise choice of pluggins. I know thats last bit is mostly BS, but seriously - imagine if say SSL changed their name to 'Dont Pinch', or Waves changed to 'Stop Stealing' - would you really want that splashed all over your DAW when your client in sitting there.

Anyways, you guys are doing a top job with the pluggins, so keep up the good work. Personally, I think the name change is a brilliant move and once it has had time to sink in should be up there with all the other top brands in no time at all.

Yeah. That Don't Crack flash really irritates me.
I don't know what to do to make it disappear. So it would be very nice of you to rename them.
