Plugivery Forums _ Plug & Mix _ Is Your Chainer What Used To Be Xlutop's Chainer?

Dear Plug and Mix.

I noticed you do something called Chainer. And Xlutop's stopped selling his Chainer. Is that because you've taken it over?

His - which I would've bought but didn't hear about it in time! - allowed you to load plugins into it and choose presets from their lists as though the plugins themselves were presets, so you could have 1 instance of his Chainer with - say - 8 instances of a monotimbral plugin in it, route 8 sounds from those instances to 8 MIDI tracks - or a mix of the 8 sounds to 1 MIDI track so a note there played the entire mix of 8 sounds - but the VST would think you were only using 1 plugin! My oddball DAW LURVES multitimbrality but so many modern VSTs are monotimbral - it would've been great to have bought it. Is yours the same one/same idea?

If so, does it work in 32-bit? You appear to have other products that work in 32-bit according to the small print on their box pictures!

Last ghastly question - if it's 'Yes' to the above two, can you save the mixed presets sounds AS a preset? So if - say - you had 8 instances of Alchemy Player in Chainer and you'd perfectly mixed an ink_WEDIBLE sound from sounds of all 8 (I can dream, can't I!?!) you could save that as a preset so when you reopened Chainer and loaded it in, it would load Alchemy Player and the mix of sounds automatically (so I can be lazy and NOT have to make notes on How I Mixed The Presets, because you never can remember how you did it, can you, there's always a large element of luck and God-on-your-side in getting the sound right in the first place!)

Yours hopefully

Chris.

Hello Chris,

If Chainer doesn't work out for you, and just in case you haven't run across them, there are a couple of other options that I know of:

DDMF ( https://ddmf.eu/ ) has a 32 bit bridge plugin called Bridgewize. They also have a couple of "chainer" type plugins: Metaplugin and Super Plugin that may work for you. (I don't own these so can't offer any sort of review.)

Another, more expensive option, would be Blue Cat Audio's Patchwork.

https://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_PatchWork/

While I do own this one, I've only recently acquired it so have limited experience. I mix more than run VIs, but the possibilities with this one are mind blowing. I've been really impressed so far. A quick glance on the Main Features section of the page I linked looks promising for what it sounds like you're trying to do.

Anyway, good luck!
Mike

So this IS what happened to Xlutop's Chainer - it got bought up by this lot and re-skinned! THAT'S why he closed down its shop on his website - I always wondered!!

Thanks for the Bridger tip - I've never gotten the hang of JBRIDGE. I'll try the one you mentioned.

Thanks again for all your help. Will be back to tell you if it worked.

Yours respectfully

Chris.

I'm not sure that's correct. I don't think there is any connection with P&M Chainer and Xlutop's chainer.

P&M Chainer has been out for years so it would have coexisted with Xlutop's chainer for a period of time.
