Full Version: Cosmos Control Question

I wonder if anyone can clarify what the sub-bass tuning control in Cosmos is really all about. The documentation simply says:

"Dials in the frequency of the synth sub generator"

I'm afraid that doesn't really tell me much. There's little info about how this particular feature works its magic, and I'd like to understand this a little better. Thanks in advance if you can enlighten me.

Hello dmbaer,

The sub-bass tuning control is the control where you can select the frequency of the ultra low end present in the audio on the channel you have inserted the Cosmos on.

If it is a bass drum or bass guitar or synth you can select what the frequency that you want to enhance to give more presence to.

For a dance track this will allow you shake the floor or rattle the building, for a normal track you can dial in a really solid low end.

Here's a trick I picked up, try to figure out what key signature your song is in, for example Bb major or C major, take a look for a frequency chart and set the frequency to the fundamental of that key.

An example for Bb would be 58Hz, E major would be 82Hz, that gives a nice support to the song, try multiplying it by two to see what that gives, sometimes it is even better.

Tuning EQ to a song really works wonders on drums and bass.

Careful not to overdo it as the bass energy can add a lot of energy and make the track had to master to the levels of loudness that people expect to hear these days and it goes in distortion real quick.

Best regards,

Nick
